Subclass 102 (Adoption) Visa

The Adoption Visa (Subclass 102) allows children adopted outside of Australia to live with their adoptive parent/s in Australia.

Benefits of Subclass 102

With a Subclass 102 (Adoption) Visa, a child has the following benefits:

  • Live in Australia permanently with the adoptive parent/s
  • Work and study in Australia
  • Enrolment in Medicare
  • Travel to and from Australia for 5 years
  • Sponsorship of eligible relatives for permanent residence
  • Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following prerequisites before applying for this visa:

  • Have already been adopted or be in the process of being adopted
  • Have a sponsor who is an eligible parent or prospective adoptive parent
  • Be under 18 years of age at the time of adoption and visa application
  • Meet the health requirements
  • Meet the character requirements

The visa may not be granted if it is not in the child’s best interests.

Location when Applying

The application must be submitted when the child is outside Australia.

Including Other Children

If there is a case wherein the principal child applicant has siblings who also need to apply for this visa, separate applications must be submitted for each sibling. In addition, if the child who is applying has dependent children, they can be included in the primary visa application.
