Subclass 143 (Contributory Parent) Visa
Subclass 143 (Contributory Parent) Visa is a permanent visa that permits a parent of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen to migrate to Australia.

- Sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
Individuals who wish to distribute the expense of the permanent contributory parent visa over many years can apply in two steps:
➢ Firstly, apply for a Subclass 173 (Contributory Parent (Temporary)) Visa
➢ Next, apply for the Subclass 143 (Contributory Parent) Visa
Eligibility
The requirements to apply for this visa include:
- Not have applied for or hold the Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) Visa
- Be sponsored for the visa by:
○ An eligible child
○ A child over 18 years
○ An eligible relative or community organisation
○ An approved sponsor
- Meet the balance-of-family test:
○ At least half of the children and step-children are eligible children, or
○ The number of eligible children living in Australia are more than in any other country
- Have assurance of support
- Meet the health requirements
- Meet the character requirements
- Apply as a retiree if:
○ The individual held or previously held an Investor Retirement (Subclass 405) or Retirement (Subclass 410) Visa on 8 May 2018, and
○ The individual has not held any other substantive visa between 8 May 2018 and the date they applied for the Parent visa
Note: Individuals that apply for Subclass 143 as a retiree need not:
➢ Have a sponsor
➢ Have assurance of support
➢ Meet the balance-of-family test
